The Worm Turns for Bendigo Bank - Mathoura - 16 Dec 2005
The Mathoura Visitor and Business Centre’s role as a financial institution is enjoying a resurgence with increased activity in a range of service areas. Where the Bank agency was initially losing money, the worm has now turned and it is now making a profit. This is thanks largely to the fact that district residents have embraced their own Bendigo Bank agency and are not only enjoying the convenience of having a full range of financial services right on their own doorsteps, but having access to the best in the business. By opening accounts, or transferring existing Bendigo Bank accounts to the local agency, they are contributing to their community by helping make the Centre self-sufficient. more ..

New Life for Caldwell Sunday School - 16 Dec 2005
New life has been breathed into the old Sunday School building at Caldwell, thanks to Murray Shire and the local community. Their combined efforts have seen the disused McKindlay Hall Sunday School building transformed into a meeting room/children’s play area along with toilet facilities. It has been connected to the main hall building with a walkway, allowing elderly and disabled access. more ..

Cadell Plan Success in Murray Shire - 16 Dec 2005
The Cadell Land and Water Management Plan has proved a huge success in Murray Shire. A partnership between the government and the local community, it aims to achieve environmental, economic and social sustainability within its designated area. Covering 299,000ha, it is bounded by the Murray, Edward and Wakool Rivers and Gulpa Creek, encompassing the majority of the Murray Shire area as well as small sections of Wakool Shire and the Deniliquin Council area. Further Boost for "Four Post" - 16 Dec 2005

The Four Post Youth Camp on Murray Shire’s boundary with Deniliquin Council continues to grow. Its latest development involves the official opening of a second accommodation block. The block was officially opened on Saturday 12 November 2005 by Federal Member for Murray, Sussan Ley MP. She was supported by Murray Shire Mayor, Brian Sharp and Deniliquin Mayor, Lindsay Renwick.

Respite Program Cares for Carers - 23 Nov 2005

A new program operating in Moama is proving a boon for both carers and those in their charge. The All Day Respite Program has been developed jointly by Murray Shire’s Community Services Department and the Regional Social Development Group Deniliquin. It operates once a week in the Moama Senior Citizens’ Centre, Martin Street, Moama. Held on Thursdays, it runs from 10:00am until 4:00pm and a healthy lunch is available for a nominal cost.

Health Service Under Utilised - 23 Nov 2005

Moama residents have access to an excellent service provided by Greater Southern Area Health Service, being the Moama Community Health Service - which caters for both town and rural residents. However, only a small percentage of people are aware it exists.

Alert Councils to Border Anomalies - 04 Apr 2005
Murray Shire, and its Victorian neighbour, Campaspe, have a campaign of co-operation which is second to none. Neither Council is deterred by the fact that the Murray River runs between them, putting them in different states. They simply see themselves as serving one community together and get on with the job. Dogs Banned from Play Areas - 04 Apr 2005
Dog owners are advised there are new rules regarding dogs and childrens play areas. It is illegal, under the Companion Animals Act 1998 to allow a dog to wander within school grounds or within a 10 metre radius of a childrens playground. Dog owners who fail to keep their animals under control and away from play areas could face a $110 fine. more ..

Information Available to Public - 30 Mar 2005
Under the Local Government Act, ratepayers and residents may access a range of information relating to Councils operation. Documents may be inspected free of charge during normal office hours and copies may be purchased. They include the Code of Conduct adopted by the Council as well as its code of meeting practice, annual financial, general and auditors reports, general and EEO management plans as well as Councils delegations, land and investment registers. more ..
